Here's to the future: Looking back on the past 16 years of Meridian Realty

With celebrating our 16th anniversary, reflecting on the journey so far has been no small feat. Looking back on the road we've walked to get to where we are now, I couldn't be prouder of all we've achieved.
Over the past 16 years so much has happened. When we look at the real estate industry alone, the number of major changes the industry has undergone is staggering. Newspapers are no longer the advertising medium of choice. Having an office is no longer a requirement for success. New regulations and legislation have obliged us to change the way we approach our services.
Beyond our industry, the world went through the biggest financial crisis it has seen since the Great Depression. South Africa has gone through the leadership of 4 presidents and survived the entire state capture ordeal. And as if that wasn't enough, we are currently still in the midst of the worldwide pandemic that has accelerated change across the real estate industry like never before.
Through it all, the Meridian family has grown into more than we could ever have dreamed of. Since we decided to start our estate agency, Meridian has grown from 2 brothers in their 20s working out of a garage into a national network of 150 dedicated and passionate professionals. We claimed our position as South Africa's premier virtual estate agency of choice and have passionately been serving our agents and clients ever since. While the journey to date has had its ups and downs, it is without reserve that I can say that the decision my brother and I made all those years back has led to one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
One of the meanings of the word "meridian" is a "high point". We knew that buying property is a meridian in the lives of most people, and we wanted to share in those moments and be a part of that journey. That is why Meridian became the name of our agency. Those founding ideals turned out to be somewhat more prophetic than I could have imagined, and through the years we have shared in the highs (and sometimes the lows) of so many people.
We have been more privileged than those two brothers in the garage would have dared hope for. Meridian has overseen thousands of clients' successful property transactions and helped hundreds of estate agents take their businesses and careers to levels they had not previously imagined. We are blessed with incredible staff members who live the Meridian dream every single day with passion and dedication. We are more than just a company; we are a group of people that are passionate about our industry and deeply care for each other. Simply put, we are a family. And it is our family values that have been at the core of the agency since its inception and remain a vital part of our foundation to this day.
In our formative years, my brother played an instrumental role in positioning the Meridian brand, and in 2007 we were joined by my father who enabled Meridian to expand its operations to the Overberg area. By 2014 we were able to go into a successful partnership with another close-knit family group, whom we remain partners with to this day. While the family may have grown to 150 members, our values of integrity, reliability, and high-quality service offered to both our clients and to our Meridian family still runs as the golden thread through our company.
It has been an absolute honour and privilege to connect on such a level with so many wonderful people over the years, and to truly become part of their lives. The core of any successful real estate business is relationships, and Meridian Realty afforded me the privilege to build so many of them.
Here is to the next 16 years. I can't wait to see where the journey will take us next.
